TWO Chelmsford Round Table members have walked 81 miles to raise more than £1,800 for charity.

Adam Curtis, Essex Round Table chairman, and member Paul Walker were joined by friend Richard Harrington-Groves, as they followed ‘The Essex Way’ footpath from Epping Underground Station to Harwich Lighthouse.

Spreading the walk over the Easter Bank Holiday weekend the trio spent an impressive 37 hours on their feet and totted up 81 miles.

The money will be split across three charities, including Essex Mind, Glaucoma Association and Round Table Children’s Wish, which is dedicated to granting ‘handcrafted’ wishes for children and young people with life threatening illnesses.

Adam, who is coming to the end of his year as Round Table’s area chairman for Essex, has recently turned 30 and wanted to complete the challenging walk as a celebration of the two milestones.

After revealing his plans to fellow Tabler Paul, and colleague at Braintree Precision Components Ltd, Richard, the three of them began organising the walk to help raise money for charity.

Adam, a production engineer from Chelmsford, said: “The whole weekend was a great way to celebrate an incredible year as area chairman for Essex, and despite the blisters, sore joints and plenty of hobbling, we all made it to the finish line in high spirits.

“It was great to have both Paul and Richard with me along the way, and knowing how much we’ve raised for our chosen charities is a fantastic feeling.

"We’ve already started planning our next adventure, so we’re looking forward to the challenges ahead!”

Steve Glaister, President of Round Table, added: “Our members are always challenging themselves to help raise money for charity, which is something that we are proud to support as an organisation.

"It’s great to hear about projects Tablers undertake and we look forward to hearing more about the group’s future plans.”
