A man was stabbed after an argument involving five people near a children's playground in Chelmsford.

Detectives have launched an investigation after the man, in his 20s, was stabbed between Fifth Avenue and Arun Close.

The incident took place on Saturday between 2pm and 3pm.

Later that night, police arrested a 55-year-old man from Chelmsford on suspicion of GBH.

He is being questioned by officers.

After being stabbed in the upper body, the victim, who lives locally, made his way towards Anglia Ruskin University, where he collapsed.

He was treated by ambulance crews and taken to hospital by air ambulance, but has since been released.

Investigating officers would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have been in the area at the time.

DS Phil Greaves of Chelmsford CID said: "There is a playground close by and at that time of the day the area would have been quite busy.

"I would ask anyone who saw what happened or who noticed anybody acting suspiciously in the area to get in touch with us.”

He added: "We believe this may have been a targeted attack and there is no immediate risk to members of the public.”

Anyone that can help is asked to call Chelmsford CID on 101, quoting incident number 828 of July 4.
