The Magpas Helimedix air ambulance was called to help at the scene of a traffic collision involving a cyclist and a van.
Doctor Leigh Bissett and paramedic Dan Read arrived at the scene in Winsford Way, in Chelmsford at 11pm last night via the Magpas Rapid Response car.
The East of England Ambulance Service also attended with an ambulance and rapid response vehicle.
Crews treated a male patient in his mid-20s who had suffered serious head injuries including a possible fractured skull.
However he was conscious and breathing and was taken to Broomfield Hospital via land ambulance for further treatment. He was in a stable condition.
The Magpas team put measures into place to protect his injuries, before he was taken to Broomfield Hospital, in a stable condition, by an EEAST Ambulance Service Paramedic Crew.
HART and Fire and Rescue Services were also on the scene.
