A FUNDRAISING group set up after a teenager died of brain cancer has raised more than £100,000 in her memory.

Friends of Katie was established to raise money for Little Havens Hospice, in Benfleet, where Katie Hart-Greenfield, from Bicknacre, was cared for before she died there in 2008, aged 15.

The group’s fundraising total reached six figures after £3,058 was collected at its eighth annual charity cricket match, which was held at Little Baddow Cricket Club recently.

Katie’s mum, Jo, and dad, Nick, as well as her uncle, cousin and close friends took part in the charity game against opposition provided by family and friends of Alan Ryder, who was cared for by Farleigh Hospice, in Chelmsford, before his death, aged 69, from cancer last year.

Nick, who has become a Community Champion for the hospice, said: “We are already looking forward to raising the next £100,000 for Little Havens and helping to keep Katie’s legacy very much alive.”
