CHELMSFORD ABC boxer Louis O’Doherty marked his first competitive bout withawin over Charlie Goodman.

O’Doherty edged the first two rounds against his opponent from Battlesbridge before giving Goodman a standing count in the final round at Chelmsford’s charity dinner show at Boreham House.

Louis Theedam faced Harwich’s Paul Gordon in a close contest that saw the Chelmsford boxer struggling to deal with Gordon’s long reach before Theedam lost to a split decision.

CourtneyWalcott also lost to a split decision in his fight with Southend’s Toure Abdoul. It was a close fight and Walcott countered Abdoul’s heavy punches well.

Matt Saunders overcame the slightly more experienced Connor Halloway, from Attleborough, withamature display that earned him a split verdict.

Chelmsford signed off withawin as Akib Baig got a technical knock out (TKO) in the first round against Chadwell’s Robert King.

One of Baig’s heavy punches damaged King’s nose and the doctor prevented the contest from continuing.

Chelmsford coach Dave Hull said: “It’s amazing how we have turned these lads into up-and-coming boxers in only six months, and they really could become champions of the future.”

The showstarted with a two-minute silence in memory of club stalwart Bob Miller.
