Chelmsford Chieftains put on a dominant display as they defeated derby rivals London Raiders, formally Romford Raiders 7-2 at Riverside Ice and leisure on Sunday.

With Streatham Redskins double loss at the weekend this win puts the Chieftains back on top of the NIHL Division One Table, two points ahead of the Redskins with three games in hand.

Czech Defence man Lukas Zatopek was the man of the match with one goal and two assists as well as a solid game in the heart of the Chieftains defence.

Chieftains have a blank weekend this weekend a chance to recharge those batteries prior to an busy few weekends ahead.

Zapotek opened the scoring and Ross Brears put the Chieftains back in front after the Raiders equalised through Dan Peters. Bailey Chittock back-handed the puck to make it 3-1.

Darren Brown finished a good move to make it 4-1 and then Ryan Giles netted a second powerplay strike.

Peters got his second for the Raiders but John Connolly and Cameron Bartlett scored to complete Chieftain’s win.

The victory was the perfect tonic for Chelmsford following their 5-1 cup loss at the hands of the premier league’s Milton Keynes Lightning on Saturday.

Chieftains are next at home on Sunday, December 28 when Wightlink Raiders visit.
