JENNY Kochan and Martin Compton snaffled the individual honours on an absorbing Ridley League finals night at Little Waltham.

Compton finally got his hands on the men’s singles darts trophy, wrecking defending champ Robbie Turner’s hopes of a title hat-trick on the way with a smash-and-grab semi-final finish that raised the roof.

The first two legs were shared, but a magnificent 150 (treble 20, treble 20, treble 10) left Turner on double 18, with the match at his mercy – until ice-cool Compton stepped in to hit a 112 game shot: 20, 60 and double 16.

The Globe star went on to edge out the host club’s Darren Kochan in the final, and completed a good night by lifting the Captains’ Cup and leading his club’s Fours charge in yet another three-legger, against Turner’s Dog & Partridge quartet.

His haul was matched by Jenny Kochan, who showed her intent to regain the women’s singles crown with 180 in her semi-final, and went on to deliver against team-mate Lou Morton in a close final.

She also took the pairs (with Morton) two straight – Donna Hazell and Mags Sturgeon thus losing at the last hurdle for the second year running – and retained the mixed trophy with son Darren.

Mick Cain (Dog & Partridge) avenged his team’s Fours defeat with a trophy double against the Globe, beating Barry Devenish in the Secretaries’ final and partnering Dave Kelly to pairs victory over Dave Drummond and Jim Thompson.

Marion Wiley (Cricketers) chalked up her third successive Licensees’ Cup win in an event that sadly seems to have lost its pub appeal. Chequers’ Wendy Barker sportingly offered herself as this season’s human sacrifice as Wiley triumphed for the fourth time in eight final appearances over the last 12 years.

Mick Rogers had to work hard for Little Waltham’s first dominoes singles title, overcoming Richard Dow in three games. The pairs, an all-Felsted affair, went to Chequers B’s Darren Thomas and Noel Cummins.

The Chequers also claimed the nine-dart charity challenge, won with a score of 320 by Matt Day, who sportingly returned his winnings.
