CHELMSFORD City host Hayes & Yeading on Saturday still looking for their first win of the season.

The Clarets picked up a point on the opening day of the National League South season with a 2-2 draw away to Oxford City on Saturday.

But they were beaten 1-0 by Hemel Hempstead Town on Monday night in their first home match of the new campaign.

The Clarets were first to find the net against hosts Oxford City at the weekend.

Hugo Skepelhorn put Chelmsford ahead just after the half-hour mark against hosts who switched from the northern section of the league this summer.

But Oxford were back on level terms within a couple of minutes through Alessandro Santiago.

On 52 minutes the visitors struck again through Charlie Henry, but Oxford levelled straight from the restart via a long-distance strike from Bradley Bubb.

Both sides were awarded penalties in the final quarter of the match, but the keepers saved the day from both spot-kicks.

Firstly, despite being able to beat Ashley Timms from the halfway line, Bubb could not beat him from 12 yards as the City keeper guessed correctly, diving to his right to parry the ball away.

Chelmsford then had their own opportunity to score from the spot after Lee Sawyer was brought down in the area.

Billy Bricknell stepped up but his well struck penalty was saved brilliantly at full stretch by Laurie Walker to deny Mark Hawkes’ team a winning start to the season.

City clipped to a 1-0 defeat when former Clarets striker Jamie Slabber, who joined the Tudors this summer, returned to the club to bag the winner for Hemel Hempstead in the first half.

Charlie Henry was denied from the penalty spot by Hemel goalkeeper Jamie Butler in the first half and the visitors went on to make it back-back wins.
