THE Chelmsford Chieftains and Warriors teams secured maximum points at the weekend to maintain their positions at the top of the table.

Chieftains went into their two NIHL Division One South fixtures on the back of Thursday’s 9-1 win over Invicta Dynamos in the South East Cup.

The victory secured Chelmsford the trophy with a match remaining and earned new coach Sean Easton his first senior hockey silverware in coaching.

Juraj Huska got a hat-trick, Oleg Lescenko and Charlie Phillips a brace ech, while Lukas Zatopek and Danny Hammond were also on target.

Saturday saw the Chieftains play in Romford Raiders alternative strip turned inside out after forgetting their own shirts. But the embarrassment was tempered by a 4-1 league win, with man of the match Darren Brown securing a brace.

Chieftains headed to the league’s smallest rink on Sunday and returned from the Solent Devils with a 3-1 win to leave themselves four points clear of Invicta in the table with a game in hand.

The Warriors, who largely feature young players from the club’s ice hockey academy, defeated Lee Valley Lions 8-3 on Saturday and Slough Jets 8-1 on Sunday.

That put them back at the top of NIHL Division Two East, level on points with Peterborough Islander but with a better goal difference.
