CHELMSFORD Cricket Club's teams secured four wins from four matches ahead of the start of the Shepherd Neame Essex League on Saturday.

Only one match was competitive and that saw the first team bag a seven-wicket victory over Colchester & East Essex in the League Cup.

Anthony Hill was the start with six wickets that helped bowl Colchester out for 105, before Ben Clifford's unbeaten 44 helped Chelmsford to 106-3.

Shiraz Shahid and Stuart Everard were amongst the wickets for the second team away at Colchester, who were bowled out for 91.

The chase was perhaps dragged out longer than it needed to be, but Chelmsford posted 95-4 to win by six wickets.

The third team enjoyed a similarly comfortable 101-run victory. David Thrift contributed 64 in Chelmsford 192-8 total, with useful contributions from Craig Thompson and Sam Trowell.

Basildon subsided to 91 all out, with Thompson picking up four wickets.

The closest game of the weekend was the Sunday friendly against Little Baddow.

Ed Cole dropped anchor in Chelmsford’s 159-8, contributing 47, with support from opening partner Suhail Shahid, who made 34 prior to being run out.

Little Baddow reached 124 in reply, with Luke Smith picking up 3-25 before Liam Keaney finished things off at the end, taking 2-1.
